Hi Peter. Don't get me wrong, I do think fundamentals are valuable in the right hands! Properly applied, the are very powerful and you can develop a comprehensive and robust trading system around them. However, I also don't believe they are necessary to excel in the markets, so for me it's very much a matter of weighing pros and cons. On the pro side I'm still able to achieve excellent and consistent trading results with an almost purely technical focus, while also avoiding the very real negative of fundamental analysis which is the amount of time it takes to do. For me, the time freedom of trading with a more technical focus is just too compelling to ignore.

I've been trading for about 6 years now and I use a largely fundamental approach. It seems to me that without the fundamentals it could be very difficult to find consistency. I do however like what you are saying about the time involved because I probably spend three or four hours a day just studying the news. It works well for me though so I don't think the power of fundamentals should be ignored.
