In reply to <a href="https://samuraitradingacademy.com/adapting-trading-strategy-high-volatility-markets/#comment-737">Ravi Krishnan</a>.

Hi Ravi.

Sorry, I usually try to make this clear on the charts but I missed adding the detail this time. I'm trading the Emini S&P 500 (ES) using 555 Tick charts, meaning that each bar represents 555 trades. They are not time-based as I find that using Tick or Volume charts does a better job representing momentum moves and the minor pullbacks/corrections within them that charts such as the 5 Minute or 15 Minute tend to miss (as they just show one large, filled bar once they close). There's nothing wrong with using charts with bar closes based around time but I tend to find they work better when looking at the longer term (so swing or position trading) but when day trading that extra price information that other bar types can provide is quite valuable.

Cheers.

Thanks for this. Struggling a bit with my system in some of the recent moves and trade volatility and this was an interesting read. Looking forward to more journal posts on this especially if we get some big moves on some future days. Ciao, Cody

Hey Dave. You should be happy if you had a solidly profitable result! As I mentioned in the article, "don't let perfection get in the way of profitability", so it's not about maximizing profit on every single move but rather taking what's there in a sustainable and repeatable way. I can't say for sure that you'll find my approach of keeping risk low to be useful but as long as you're keeping R:R strong it should give you a lot of wiggle room in terms of taking a few extra losses in high volatility. Cheers!

Really fantastic to see you sharing your trades here! I also had pretty good results last week trading ES, NQ, and YM but I probably didn't take full advantage of the moves. I do make my stops larger so that probably doesn't help too as I'm taking wins that aren't much larger but taking larger losses than usual. I'll take the advice here and revisit my approach as there's probably a better way even if I'm still pretty happy with last weeks profits! Thanks Cody!
